Ziraat Katılım expanded its greenhouse gas inventory in 2024 by adding leakage emissions to the scope of greenhouse gas emissions that it started to calculate in 2023.
Ziraat Katılım has adopted a comprehensive approach at both financial and operational levels by placing combating against climate change at the heart of its corporate strategy. The Bank regards accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy and contributing to sustainable development as one of its main responsibilities. Aiming to fulfill its responsibilities towards environmental values at every stage of its activities in line with its sustainability strategy and to continuously improve its environmental performance, Ziraat Katılım prioritizes combating climate change.
As part of combating climate change, the Bank carries out activities such as developing a climate strategy, collecting and evaluating customers’ climate data, developing products and services to prevent climate change, integrating climate risk factors into the Bank’s risk system, expanding the scope of measurement of emissions arising from operational processes and planning mitigation goals.
In 2024, Ziraat Katılım completed the first phase of its climate strategy and risk measurement project. A climate strategy was developed as one of the key components of the sustainability strategy, and analyses and assessments were conducted to integrate climate-related risk factors into the risk system and quantify them. The project outputs include a climate heat map of the Bank’s portfolio, scenario analysis, and stress test studies. As part of the project, the actions to be implemented in the coming period were designed, planned, and presented to the Sustainability Committee.
The Bank expanded its greenhouse gas inventory in 2024 by adding leakage emissions to the scope of greenhouse gas emissions that it started to calculate in 2023. In 2025 and the following period, studies to calculate portfolio emissions are planned to be prioritized by taking into account the current status of the Bank’s climate risk heat map.
In order to reduce resource consumption, the Bank continues to develop eco-friendly practices aimed at increasing energy efficiency, minimizing paper usage, reducing waste, and enhancing recycling at its branches.
Moreover, as part of combating climate change, the Bank designs and offers sustainability-themed retail and commercial loan products for its customers.
Closely following sustainable finance developments, in order to provide the necessary conditions for green investments in the coming period, the Bank is working to update its sustainable finance framework and develop systems and processes to meet the necessary criteria for loan disbursement.
Ziraat Katılım Climate Vision
Ziraat Katılım aims to support its customers in their journey to transition to a low-carbon economy and contribute to Türkiye’s goals to combat climate change.
It attaches great importance to developing sustainable financial solutions in accordance with the principles of participation banking by taking climate risks into account in its operations and services. With a responsible, ethical, and long-term perspective, it aims to support the transition of the region in which it operates to a sustainable future by raising environmental awareness.
The Bank plans to set goals and take actions in line with the priorities identified as part of its climate strategy.
The Bank carries out projects aiming at developing and expanding green financing products focused on customer needs in line with participation banking, developing services to meet the needs of customers, providing more financing for low-carbon and clean energy projects, including climate factors in credit decision-making processes, developing climate risk measurement models, increasing energy efficiency in the Bank’s internal operations, and utilization of renewable energy resources.
The Bank completed system improvements in 2024 to collect and monitor resource consumption and waste data from its internal operations in the Integrated Management Systems (ERP) module, which was commissioned in 2023, and is carrying out improvement works in line with the current needs that have emerged.
Ziraat Katılım continues its endeavors to determine emission reduction goals based on the Science Based Targets Initiative in the coming period.
Ziraat Katılım Environment and Climate Change Policy
Training programs are organized to create a culture of sustainability within the Bank and to increase the level of environmental awareness of employees. Online trainings on sustainability, environment, and zero waste are organized through the Ziraat Katılım Academy Training Portal. In 2024, 2 hours per person of training were provided in this context. In addition, sustainability trainings were provided as part of the orientation program for new employees joining the Bank and YÖNAP trainings.
